Nuclear Power

Nuclear power provides 6.3% of the world's energy and 15% of the world's electricity. Nuclear power is the fourth-largest source of electricity in India after thermal, hydroelectric and renewable sources of electricity.

As of 2010, India has 20 nuclear reactors in operation in six nuclear power plants, generating 4,780 MW; while seven other reactors are under construction and are expected to generate an additional 5,300  MW.

India has been making advances in the field of thorium-based fuels, working to design and develop a prototype for an atomic reactor using thorium and low-enriched uranium.

A talk on Nuclear Power in India was conducted by the team ( TGCC EN-15).

This event was conducted over a period of two days (12th October and14th October, 2012). A talk on nuclear power was held on 12th October in which Dr. K Balakrishna, a professor of the Civil Department spoke on Nuclear Power in India for about 30 minutes in which he very aptly described how exactly India’s nuclear setup can be used beneficially.

He talked about the various nuclear reactors in India and about our ties with other foreign nations in lieu with Nuclear Power.
